Spare Oom

For the past week, Scooter's been living in banishment in our Spare Oom amidst boxes and other assorted flotsam. Her crime? Continuing to chase Melody to the point where Scooter now looks like a prize fighter. And then she bit Dan quite hard when he attempted to separate the two.

Dan's fine although he's still got the scars from the last time she bit him. After keeping the cats separated, we attempted a reintegration last night by letting Scooter out.

After a short period of niceness, she immediately started stalking Melody again and tangled up with her once again. Dan, using bull fighting techniques, herded Scooter down the hall where she hid in the guest room. Later, I went up and escorted her into Spare Oom wherein we have the automagic litter pan.

Scooter's face is all scratched up but at least she hasn't lost an eye (yet). While we're irritated with her, we also realize that there's more danger to Scooter than to Melody, who is fulled armed.

And while I've not been Melody's biggest supporter (given how much grief she gave Mittens when I first got her), she has turned out to be the most gracious cat in the whole house. She is quite reasonable. She seeks no conflict, avoiding Butch when possible, hissing if he gets too close, but also able to tolerate his presence. She shows no real interest in Scooter except to keep a wary eye on her when she's in the room. Melody is behaving appropriately in the situation. She's never the aggressor.

Poor Scooter. =( I do miss having her around all the time, but she just can't seem to get over herself. If she'd just leave Melody alone, all would be well. But she has to stalk her, has to chase her, has to corner her such that Melody must defend herself.

We need a Cat Whisperer :( Or maybe Candyce is right and some kitty valium would be useful. I don't know what we'll do.

Two excellent electrical products come to mind. Training collar - the moment she pounces push the button and *ZAP* tumble tumble tumble. And for a more automated solution that works even while you're away use the invisible pet fencing collar and put the triggering device on the other cats. Of course if the other cats figure it out....what fun they are going to have sneaking up on her all the time while she's asleep. :)

You know, Tracy has been egging me to get a new cat since I lost Maggie. Maybe should could loan me Scooter for a 30 day test run. I taught Mittens the 4 letter word SPOT, I could teach this one another 4 letter word.

You keep this up, Rob, and I'll invite you over to stay in the Spare Oom with Scooter.

My bets will be on her :)
