Blister it!
I walked nearly 9 miles yesterday and Dan and I will be setting out for a 5 mile trek in a few minutes. Butch will likely be unhappy that we lure him out under the false pretense of his evening constitutional, but he has no say in the matter.
At about the 6 mile mark last time, my toes were a bit unhappy, so I changed my socks and continued on my way, walking around Mercer Slough, through downtown Bellevue and then across 405 to head back south to the Slough. It's a decent loop route that allows for many variations to change the mileage.
But once at home, I found little blisters had formed on two of my toes. Sadness!
Before we picked Jose up from the airport this afternoon, Dan drove me down to Kent to consult with athletic footwear folks at his favorite shop, The Balanced Athlete. The guy was very nice, measuring my feet, filming me struggling on the treadmill to figure out what my issues are, and then bringing out appropriate shoes...all the while chatting sports gear with Dan.
"Can we make this more about me?" I asked at one point, inserting myself (and my feet) into their conversation. "Do you have any cute shoes? Possibly in pink?"
And although the first batch of shoes were not, he did finally produce a lovely pair of pink and white Pearl Izumi shoes that I fell in love with.
So, new shoes, let's go for a walk, shall we? Yay!

Such a girlie girl, 'ster =P
The world needs more girlie girls!
My new shoes are very comfortable. While I decided not to push myself (and my blisters) to an entire 5 miles, we went around the Slough and my toes did not hurt.
Yay!
Apparently, the Pearl Izumi folks are primarily a biking shoe company, as bikers need shoes without decorated uppers. Then they branched into running shoes.
Although, quite frankly, I was willing to buy them based on the name alone as it reminds me of Izumi Curtis: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Izumi_Curtis :)
GEEEEEEK!!1!!
Those are adorable and I want my own pair. Except if I bought them, I would feel like I should walk/run for extended distances. And there are few things in this world I hate more than walking/running for extended distances.
That said, I do own a pair of these and I love them:

Sushi...do you wear those Vibram things in public? If so, what reaction do you get? They look like rock climbing shoes.
I forwarded the link to Dan and his comment was, "Is this safe for work?" hahaha! :D
Those Vibram things are win.
Of course, I have very little care for style. I'd wear them to weddings, to funerals, to formal occasions...
Yep! I have worn the shoes to work and the gym and to walk the dog. They feel just like walking barefoot, but without the barefoot part. In fact, maybe I should send a link to John Donham - wasn't he always walking around barefoot back in the day?
