I want this LapTrap. One reason I don't pack around my laptop to get anything done on my commute to work is the bulk of my current wheeled laptop case. What I have is perfect to traveling for long distances; the LapTrap looks more like something that one could actually use on shorter hops.

Santa, are you listening? :)

Last month we had our auctions in the little game, spread over two weekends and sorting out the goods into a weekend of weaponry and a weekend of fluff. Four million or so dinar later, folks in general seem pretty pleased with how it went. While I missed the first weekend with malaise and fatigue, I enjoyed the last two days, attending as our tortured NPC, wrapped in the embrace of her supportive boyfriend. :)

Poor guy.

At the end of the weekend, the soul was ripped from his chickie-pooh and place into a fox-shaped charm he's had now for some time. I'd been planning to kill her off this way ever since I laid eyes on that charm, which wraps itself lovingly and confidingly around its owner. But it seems a shame to totally erase her. She is a cool NPC, so I left it that someday, someone might find a way to save her. So now I'll have to think about that bit of it because even the boyfriend said he was surprised at how upsetting her death was, and being that he works for me, it's my job to keep his spirits up :) Any suggestions for how to resurrect our tortured soul?

If you're driving today, be careful. Lots of holiday drivers out on the roads.

Broos, do we have to set fire to another set of woods near your house to ever hear from you again? :D ::smooch::

When Rob and I go out, we should be required to post a notice somewhere that we're on the loose. I feel sorry for the poor folks who wait our tables, or ring up our purchases.

Last night, we went to dinner and the waitress came by to see if we were ready to order. Rob points to the live dungeness crab entree on the menu and says to her, "You know, for thirty bucks, you'd think you would at least cook the crab." "Oh, but we do," began the waitress uncertainly, till she caught my eye and realized she'd been had. After she wandered away, Rob said he should have ordered it and then been offended when they brought it out to him cooked as "the menu said they'd be live."

Afterwards, we went to Best Buy so I could pick up The Two Towers extended DVD. As usual, Rob and I wander off in different directions to browse, then eventually hook back up to head to the register. We approach the cashier, not saying anything to each other but standing rather close together with me clutching my DVDs to my chest. "Are these together or separate?" asked the cashier, nodding toward me after ringing Rob's purchases. "Together," said Rob, waving me to hand over my DVD. I beamed at him, saying, "Oh! You're paying for my stuff, too? Thanks!" I paused, then added conversationally, as though I'd never seen him before, "What's your name?"

It's a lot of fun for us because we can both do this with a straight face. It's not so much fun when he does it to me though, which is why I feel for those poor wait staff at our mercy.

It's snowing here :) There's slush on the roads, so it's not the kind of snow that will stick around, but still... for a little while, there's a magical white landscape. And always the chance it'll snow so hard we can't go to work. Yay!

Although, I do live close enough to the bus stop that I can technically worry my way down the street (I brought in my duck boots from the garage) and catch the bus. Oh, well.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

In a perplexing bit of perplexity, I'm exhausted. I hate being exhausted by mundane activities. Mostly this weekend, I lounged around. It perplexes me because I'd like to believe I'm more active and able, but whatever cold it was that I got, it zapped every ounce of energy and borrowed some from Rob, too.

Blech.

Speaking of Rob, he ruined the birthday gift I had been planning to get for him, the DVD of Finding Nemo. Neither of us had seen it in theaters, but he likes salt-water aquariums so I thought he'd like it. And it seemed the chances were fairly low that he'd go and get it for himself. Hah. Saturday, whilst I lounged with the cherubs, he wandered into Best Buy and wandered back out with Nemo, which the family unit watched. It was hysterical and we enjoyed it tremendously, especially the sea gulls. :)

But that was about as energetic as it got for me. I'm feeling a bit more peppy today, but I can sense a tension building in my neck that fills me with forboding for the evening ahead. I need to go to class tonight; I skipped all last week. Yet my head is starting to throb ever so slightly.

I hate being sick.

Happy Veteran's day. I'm home with sinuses.

My former unit, the 81st Brigade, is preparing for 18 months in Iraq.

It seems weird to me, that because of two factors that changed my life, I am not going with them: I didn't pass the PT test as well as I had wanted and I got married. My section leader, even earlier this year, wanted me to rejoin the unit.

I'm concerned for them.

Newsletter is almost done. Yay. Although I'm kind of concerned that there's some style changes that would be nice, I think for the first issue that I have to do, I'll stick close to the original style for now.

Rob's brother returned home yesterday after spending the week out here in Seattle. The three of us went to a jazz performance Thursday night, part of the Earshot Jazz Festival. It wasn't exactly the sort of jazz I usually listen to, but it was pretty interesting. I must admit, though, I prefer my concerts to include musicians who are all playing from basically the same sheet of music :) The first group we listened to, it was hard to tell that any of them actually knew how to play their instruments. When the saxophonist hit some of those screechy "I didn't use the reed correctly" notes, it was pretty painful. Apparently this is appreciated, though, in other jazz circles. I kept thinking about how it sounded like my cherub Chris when he was first learning to play clarinet.

Rob was up to his usual evil tricks. His brother had the foresight to pile his jacket into the seat between them. I unfortunately sat right next to my husband, which enabled him to lean over and provide me with his insights into this different musical style. We were in the front row; it's a good thing the music was loud or they'd have been able to hear us giggling.

I suppose it goes to show what a traditionalist I am at heart. It was an interesting night, but it left me exhausted and I couldn't go out on Friday to hear more of the same sort of music. In a lot of ways, I'm sorry I didn't go; it would've been a broadening experience. Plus then Richard wouldn't have been scared out of his wits that Rob was going to offer his personal musical critique when the Friday night musician came and chatted to him during intermission. Rob, of course, had been busily commenting to Richard during the performance so I don't blame him for being scared that Rob might mention to the dude what he really thought of their set. :)

Another fine Sushi quiz find :)

Zicam rocks. A couple of folks at the office mentioned it and I wish I'd gone out immediately to get some. On Sunday, I bought a box of the swabs and after using it, started feeling perkier right away.

Rob, who's been out gallavanting around Seattle with his brother Richard, came dragging home last night all cold and miserable and still sick. I handed over my box of Zicam swabs to him and I really hope he uses it, cause it's great.

And that's your medical tip for the day :)

Rob's brother is in town. We're both still sick, and I have cherubs. And homework due. And a newsletter to edit. And my new cell phone won't download the ringtone I bought for it.

Mittens has been hurling all over the house. I wish he'd just hack up a furball now and then, but nooooo, he gets an upset tummy and has to hack up orange cat food everywhere. Maybe I need to switch to a different brand so at least it doesn't look so horrible on this carpet. :/

I made a quickie movie for my computer project, but now I'm concerned it won't work as part of my presentation as it won't go full screen. I'm also worried that the school won't have the same version of movie maker that I do, and that'll mean my movie won't go at all. Technology is not all it's cracked up to be. I think I'll go into power point and recreate it that way, although that loses some of the oomph in translation.
